Well if you hadn’t heard already, the BDO 12 organisers have essentially killed off 85% of the reason for going to the Big Days Out if you live in either Perth or Adelaide. Why? Because fuck you guys thats why!

What’s happened is a major reshaping of the festival in those two cities, according to Pedestrian, one of the two main stages will be scrapped meaning that Kanye West, Meriachi El Bronx and Hiltop Hoods[in Perth and for Adelaide The Living End will not be performing] (maybe not all bad then) will no longer be performing at those Big Days Out. Below has the full explanation

Added to the second announcement is Noel Gallagher, Nero and some other people, most of who are only playing East Coast shows. It’s like Big Day Out doesn’t like Perth or RADelaide ? Who’d guessed it?
“For our 20th year we have chosen to rebuild the Perth and Adelaide events from the ground up, with a goal to recapturing the magic of early Big Day Out shows.

Triggered by the need to change venues and the limited space available at our new site we have decided to look back to see the future for BDO.

We are not just moving the show to a more suitable venue but changing the entire design. We are excited the bands are into the idea and we know you will be too. One main stage, no D barricade, Skating & Skate stage in the main arena, Green stage, Boiler Room, Giant Water Slide, Show ‘N’ Shine and much, much more!”

The Perth leg of the festival will also be moving to BROWNES STADIUM in Lathlain Park.

Realising that the changes may affect some punters the Big Day Out have offered 3 forms of compensation. Including the opportunity to get a full refund, exchange a Perth or Adelaide ticket for an east coast Big Day Out show or a credit voucher to use on merchandise.

Funnily enough returning to a Footy oval IS returning to BDO’s roots as for Perth it started out at what is now Blue Steel Oval, which now hosts Soundwave.

Playground Weekender News, BDO ’12 News and Boots Electric

Over at Fasterlouder they have reminded me (us), that indeed the Playground Weekender Festival announcement is to be released in a few days (very exciting), and there have been two bands leaked/confirmed for the list:
1) Neon Indian (Fuck Yeah)
2) Chic
with rumours also milling around with:
Roots Manuva,
Erkayh Badu,
Charles Bradley,
MEN and
Cut Chemist,
all having scary close dates to the Boutique Festival, which has moved from February to March.

Big Day Out,
rumours are that Florence and The Machine will be coming down, The Killers is a persistent one, Goyte, and a few others. But Prince is still rumoured, and as far as I know, he WAS on the bill but bailed last minute, but possibly he could be back on? Maybe even just on the East Coast? Who knows? Big Day Out do, that’s who, ask them.

And finally, I’m really digging Boots Electric’s album Honky Kong. Boots Electric AKA Jesse Hughes, who we also know from Eagles Of Death Metal. It’s pretty sick.

Snackadaktal ‘Air’ Video Clip

The serious band with the fun name! Have their very first video out. You may know them from their Triple J Unearthed win earlier this year. Surprisingly enough this wasn’t the song that won them the competition. Basically if you’re too lazy to watch it, it’s like if Where The Wild Things Are was a nightmare, but then it ok, because that bit ends. If you haven’t seen or read Where The Wild Thing Are well then prepare yourself? Also there’s flares (the signalling tool, not the style of jeans).

And then there’s also San Cisco, who without being ‘one of those guys’ I have liked for a while and here’s there song that’s getting spins at the moment ‘Awkward’

Also if you think either of the chicks are attractive in the clips, fair enough, keep in mind they’re uber juvies. So sleep well knowing that now.

PLAYGROUND WEEKENDER AND MORE SOUNDWAVE NEWS

So this just came through from Pedestrian (who are very good)*, and their friends at Playground Weekender.

PGWE has announced via facebook that they’ve made a few additional organisational changes / improvements to make sure you have a good a time as one can when they’re on a party island running around in a Mr Men suit i.e. a fucking great one.

THE FERRY PROBLEM SOLVED
The ferry lines are the one big ball sucking problem with Playground Weekender. For 2012 punters will be allocated ferry tickets for certain times so as to avoid those queues.

BAG SEARCH
Bags won’t be searched until punters are on the festival side of the river to speed up the ferry queue. This also means ferry beers for everyone! No, no. No ferry beers.

COACHES WILL CROSS THE RIVER
Great improvement idea: the coaches, which leave from various spots in Sydney, will now take passengers all the way across the river on the vehicle barge. That means punters only have to load and unload bags one time. First World problems, amirite!

BETTER FESTIVAL SET UP
The Big Top will be moved to a different spot and the space next to the campsite will be filled with a more relaxed vibe such as the beer garden and yoga. It means that the stages and area where you want to go and get stuck in and enjoy music will be nearer each other. Ideal.

The lineup will be announced on 11 November!

November 11, that’s pretty fucking soon! How exciting.

Now what Pedestrian didn’t add was that not only was it boiling hot there (I was there last year, so, so hot), the dates have also been moved to coincide with a NZ festival to make it more viable for artists to come to both, so this will mean a more diverse and potentially bigger line-up vs previous years.

With regards to the bag search on island, it’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it just moves the queues from one side of the river to the other. But the allocated ferry tickets could potentially cause problems, less they have times to select from! That’d be much more effective as most people come on the Friday after work or early Saturday morning.

It’s a pretty sick festival if you’ve got the time to check it out. It is however located in NSW if you don’t already live there.

Now I’ll be one of the first people to defend and fight for the 90s as a wacky adventure through time. But seriously when shit like this is going down in Eastern Europe and it makes it as a massive Pop song all over the world, something is very, very right (or wrong).

Frank Ocean is an interesting addition as he’s more Hip Hop, but super talented in his own right and apart of the Odd Future gang. Another interesting addition is that James Murphy is attending, who is the CEO of DFA records and the previous mastermind behind LCD Soundsystem.

Alex Metric who has been making marks on Triple J with his song End Of World, off the album End Of The World. Skrillex who is pretty cool is also pretty high up on the bill (he plays dub step or wub wub wub wubwubuwubwubwub wub wubwubwub wub wub) and the double token pop acts The Wombats and Jessie J. I once had the opportunity to see Jessie J at a concert in Japan. I didn’t go.

BDO New News

So that other little thing I mentioned in a pervious post that BDO was planning something extra, I suspected it to be that TONY HAWKE announcement that they made, but at the same time it’s not.

But an inside source tells me that believe it or not PRINCE was all set to be on the BDO line-up, in fact was meant to be headlining the whole thing, and all those rumours were actually true, but he literally pulled out the day before the announcement leaving the organisers stuffed AND still looking for a last minute headliner which WILL be the new announcement and obviously the headliner.

I’m not sure who it’ll be but I’ll think about it and get back to you.

BIG DAY OUT HEADLINERS 2012

SO basically, BDO told a little white lie when they said they’d have no headliners, they in-fact do, and actually have two big draw cards.

They are:

Soundgarden (Headlining)

Kanye West

and as I mentioned in the previous post Kasabian.

Mother fucking Kanye! Shit yo! Seeing as though he didn’t do any Splendour side shows he better come here another four times before 2013, or maybe he just decided what the fuck or as the kids say “WTF MATE, the worlds going to end in 2012 and so I won’t actually have to go to Australia.

But it does beg to ask if he’ll be doing any stuff from Watch The Throne because if Odd Future are going, maybe Frank Ocean is too?

Who knows? I don’t that’s for sure. All I know is that Hodgy Beats will be there at least.

There’s apparently one more surprise announcement left that has nothing to do with bands, maybe it’s venue changes? Or that it’ll be held over two days? Or maybe they’ll actually serve decent and affordable food and drink for once?
